• Postponed opening:

LONDON: Hex (National’s Olivier Theatre) December 4-January 22, originally scheduled for December 15 then moved to December 21; on Jan 6, Rufus Norris (who is directing it and has also written the lyrics for the shw, which has a book by Tanya Ronder and music by Jim Fortune), wrote to critics to say: “Like many productions (including several other NT ones), this one has been blighted by Covid, with the first week of previews seeing a different combination of understudies and stand-ins at almost every performance, and three weeks of performances lost since then due to illness. We had hoped to emerge into a clearer situation in January, but while we have started performances again, fresh cases are still emerging and the creative team have had to disperse to other projects. We have also had to cancel the planned NT Live.” The NT now plan to revive it for a full run in November, when it will be made available for review. “The relationship between the work we make and the press is obviously a symbiotic and essential one, and we look forward very much to welcoming you to Hex when we return.” The show is based on the 17th-century Sleeping Beauty folk tale, but picks up the story beyond the kiss that woke her. LONDON: Force Majeure (Donmar Warehouse) December 10-February 5, press night January 5 (originally due to be December 16). Ruben Östlund’s award-winning film comedy about a family falling apart is adapted by Tim Price (whose play Salt Root and Roe received its premiere at the Donmar in 2011 and directed by the Donmar’s artistic director Michael Longhurst. LONDON: Bonnie and Clyde in Concert (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane)January 17-18) Jeremy Jordan, who played Clyde in Frank Wildhorn’s short-lived 2011 Broadway musical (it opened and closed after just 36 performances in the same December month, following 33 previews beforehand), returns to the role for a two-night concert performance. LONDON: Moulin Rouge! The Musical (Piccadilly Theatre) Press performances are now scheduled for January 18-20, with reviews embargoed to 11pm on January 20. With its previously announced press performances ahead of an original December 8 cancelled when COVID cases affected the company, and rescheduled dates for a new opening of January 9 also subsequently cancelled, these are the latest dates for the West End opening of t e hit 2019 Broadway version of the iconic 2001 Baz Luhrmann film. With a book by playwright John Logan, direction by Alex Timbers and choreography by Sonya Tayeh, it is produced by Carmen Pavlovic and Gerry Ryan OAM for Global Creatures and Bill Damaschke. The principal cast is led by Liisi LaFontaine as Satine, and Jamie Bogyo as Christian, with Clive Carter as Harold Zidler, Simon Bailey as the Duke, Jason Pennycooke as Lafayette/Jefferson and Elia Lo Tauro as Toulouse-Loutrec and Santiago. REGIONAL TOURING: Fatal Attraction (Theatre Royal, Brighton) January 14-22, press night January 21, then touring) Stage version of the 1987 film thriller, first seen at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in 2014, goes on the touring road, with a cast that includes Kym Walsh, Oliver Farnswroth and Susie Amy. LONDON: Saturday Night Fever (Peacock Theatre) February 1-March 26, press night February 2) West End premiere of new production of the stage version of the 70s disco film hit, featuring a score of Bee Gees hits. LONDON: Straight Line Crazy (Bridge Theatre) March 16-June 18, press night March 23) Ralph Fiennes stars in the world premiere of David Hare’s play about Robert Moses, who for forty years was the most powerful man in New York, who created new parks, bridges and expressways, but whose efforts saw grassroot protests by groups of citizens who had very different ideas of what a city was and what it should be. BROADWAY: Tracy Letts’ The Minutes, originally set to open at Broadway’s Cort Theatre in March 2020 but shut down during previews when Covid closed the theatres, will now resume performances two years later, in March 2022, at a new venue Studio 54, prior to official opening April 7.
