The week’s theatre new, reviews, birthdays and more in tweets from London, the regions and Broadway
A big week in the West End, with both the biggest opening for more than 14 months of a brand-new revival of Hairspray (pictured above), and also the small (in cast size) but mighty return of Constellations to town, in a new production of the Royal Court staging, but this time presented under the auspices of the Donmar Warehouse. I reviewed both (see links below); and was also in town to catch the return of Heathers to the Haymarket and a new and wonderful revival of the 1977 off-Broadway revue Starting Here, Starting Now at Waterloo East Theatre. I’ll be reviewing Heathers together with Be More Chill after the latter opens at the Shaftesbury on Tuesday; I’ll also be covering Pippin (opening at Charing Cross Theatre on Monday) and the Globe’s new Romeo and Juliet (reviews embargoed till Friday).
